GAP coverage (Guaranteed Asset Protection) is designed for financed vehicles. The value of a new vehicle decreases the minute it is driven out of the dealership. If the vehicle is totaled or stolen, the customer’s retail insurance will only pay what the vehicle was worth at the time of loss. The customer may still owe the lender an amount that exceeds what the insurance company agrees to pay. GAP is designed to pay that difference. There are limitations to the amount GAP will pay. By offering your customers a discount on the manufacture required maintenance, if they purchase it in advance, you increase the likelihood of the customer having their unit serviced through your dealership. This not only means profit for the service department but it also provides you with the opportunity to sell additional parts and accessories to your returning customer. Theft (often referred to as Etch) is a product designed to provide a sum of money that a customer can use to purchase a replacement vehicle if his/her vehicle is stolen and not recovered. By applying a unique traceable number to several locations on the vehicle, the Theft product is designed to aid in the recovery of a stolen vehicle. Warning stickers are also provided to be used to ward off potential thieves. In the even that the traceable number and the warning labels fail to prevent a theft and/or fail to result in the recovery of a stolen vehicle, the Theft benefit comes into play. Theft is NOT the same as retail (comprehensive and collision) insurance. Where retail insurance provides a benefit equal to the value of a vehicle just before it was stolen, Theft has a liability limit. Retail insurance is usually used to pay off a vehicle loan in the event a vehicle is stolen, where the Theft benefit can only be enjoyed if the customer purchases a replacement vehicle (except where prohibited by law). Tire & Wheel (T&W) coverage – designed for street legal motorcycles – provides the added security most enthusiasts need to enjoy the open roads without worry. Tire & Wheel coverage provides replacement tires and rims in the event that they are damaged due to road hazards.
